Pharoah’s Ant is a tropical species found only indoors in heated buildings and frequently occurs throughout the UK. Pharaoh’s ants are particularly associated with hospitals, prisons and other institutions and increasingly in large urban housing blocks.

Black Garden Ants are nuisances that can contaminate human foods. Although not inherently ‘dirty’ insects, they must sometimes walk across unsavoury and dirty areas during their foraging exercises, which makes ants invading houses considered unacceptable.
Pharaoh’s Ants may carry disease organisms and contaminate food and sterile materials. Pharaoh’s ants can penetrate food packaging by chewing and due to their small size. The ability to travel through ducting and building structure means infestations can become very widespread proving particularly difficult to eradicate. Satellite nests can be transported from one building to another.
